102.8 Chorley FM is Chorley’s only dedicated local radio station, providing a 24/7 radio service to the local people of Chorley.

As a community organisation, Chorley FM is a not-for-profit organisation, ran entirely by volunteers.

Our History...

The community organisation; Chorley FM began life back in 2001, when several like-minded people with an interest in both the radio industry and the local community wanted to launch a radio station like no other, a radio station dedicated to the community playing a great variety of music. After several RSL (Restricted Service License) broadcasts, lots of work and dedication Chorley FM was born, and granted its full time community broadcast licence in the summer of 2006.

Chorley FM began full time live broadcast in November 2006, broadcasting news and information to the public of Chorley. Since the early days of 2006 Chorley FM has enjoyed an ever growing listener base, and has become a local leader of conveying local news and information to the community. Chorley FM believes strongly in the need to remain committed to its local output; to include local events, news and travel information all of which our research suggests local people rely upon. Chorley FM remains unique in the local area in this respect.

Since our initial launch in November 2006, Chorley FM has undergone a number of changes in order to better meet the needs of our target audience; local 16-25 year old and the local LGBT community (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender).

Where are we now...

Chorley FM has a well-established community presence, regularly working within the local community to help increase awareness and popularity of the station. Chorley FM continually runs a community training program to help members of the community become actively involved in an industry becoming ever more difficult to access. We are committed to serving the community through social inclusion, the provision of training programmes accessible to the community as a whole and community announcements - ensuring that community news reaches the audience to which we serve.

What does the future hold...

Chorley FM is committed to growth, of both the radio station and its local community partners. We continually assess how to access the community and increase our listener-ship and welcome suggestions from our listeners and partners.

Management and Organisational Structure...

Chorley FM runs solely on the dedication and volunteer input of over one hundred local residents – committed to providing a professional, commercial standard of output that the local population deserve.

Chorley FM’s board of directors take full responsibility for the overall management of the station and its volunteers and are legally responsible for all business activity. The board of directors actively liaise with representatives of all station volunteers that attend regular board meetings, ensuring that the voice and opinions of all volunteers are taken into account in any decision making process. This ensures that volunteers are both informed and involved in the management of the station.
The station encourages listeners and members of the local community to actively support the station and its work and invite listeners to offer comment and suggestion about the stations output.

The board of directors are individuals with a wide range of experience in areas not just connected with the radio industry. Volunteers are welcome to apply to join the board of directors annually at the stations Annual General Meeting through a process explained in full in the Memorandum of Association.
