Asda to consult publice on proposed new Chorley Store PDF Print E-mail

ASDA has announced plans to consult the public on proposals for a new store in Chorley. The retailer has aspirations to build a new store on the site currently occupied by QS Fashions, at the corner of Bolton Street, Pall Mall and Market Street.

If given the go ahead, ASDA will open a new 44,000 square foot (sales area) store with a 440 space shoppers’ car park in the town, in conjunction with developer Chorley Renaissance. The store will create up to 400 new full and part time job opportunities for local people, and ASDA is committed to setting up a Local Employment Partnership with Chorley Council, targeting local job seekers.

The plans will also include physical improvements to Market Street, such as improved footpaths and resurfacing works, helping to enhance the town centre for shoppers and local traders alike.
ASDA has won The Grocer’s ‘Best Value Supermarket’ award 12 years in a row, and the Chorley store will carry the full range of ASDA products, including the award-winning George clothing line, Extra Special range, ASDA brand and Smart Price.

As a key part of taking forward its Chorley proposal, ASDA has announced public consultation days in the town during October. Local residents attending will be able to learn more about the scheme from the ASDA team, and feed back their comments. Details of the timing and venue of the consultation will be publicised soon.

ASDA Property Communications Manager, Phil Bartram, explains:
“We are very excited about this scheme and firmly believe that it would bring major long term benefits to the area. We are, however, always extremely keen to learn what local people think about any new plans at the earliest possible stage.
I really hope that people visit the exhibition to find out more about the proposal, and let us know what they think. By speaking in detail to the community soon – before a planning application has even been submitted – we can gain a valuable early insight into local views. Where possible, we can then look to incorporate those views into the planning application itself.

The 400 jobs created at the store would result in many thousands of pounds in salaries newly circulating in the area every year. In addition, we have the opportunity to bring to Chorley the many benefits of a quality, modern shopping offer while regenerating the Market Street site and significantly improving that area for many years to come.”

ASDA is looking to submit a planning application for the Chorley store later this year.
