On Tuesday Chorley FM were honoured with a visit from the Mayor of Chorley, Mrs Iris Smith for an evening of discussion on local issues.  The Mayors appearance and live interview was a wider part of recent filming at the Chorley based radio station, for a New BBC documentary where Chorley FM features as a “flagship example” of community radio.

The documentary which will premier on the BBCs website later this year, marks young people’s involvement in community based projects. Chorley FM has been run entirely by volunteers for over 5 years and the number of volunteers at the station has grown to over 100. Over a typical week sees Chorley FMs volunteers give up over 364 volunteer hours, investing time in preparing interviews and shows for broadcast.

Hannah Wise BBC producer for the documentary ‘BBC Blast – Behind the scenes at Chorley FM’ said; “It’s great to get into the heart of communities such as Chorley and especially to find many dedicated volunteers at the local station.”

Speaking on behalf of Chorley FM, Acting Chair person, Pauline Gowers-Scott said; "I'm delighted the BBC has chosen Chorley FM to feature in the documentary and we are looking forward to exciting times ahead, this is just the start of our plans to increase the Radio Station's profile and to represent the town as a whole."

Chorley FM is gaining national recognition as a strong community radio station, that caters for the wider public with specialist music and community orientated programming in the evening.

Fairview community centre recently teamed up with some of Chorley FMs late night DJs to teach the art of music mixing and MC’ing, these sessions are free to attend for anyone under the age of 17.

Chorley FM commenced broadcasting a wide range of community orientated programming on the frequency 102.8FM during November 2006 in conjunction with the Chorley Christmas lights switch on, and has seen the station grow in popularity and success ever since.
