Police appeal following distraction burglary
Police are appealing for information after a man tried to con a Chorley pensioner in his own home.
The incident happened at his home address on Brown Street between 5:00pm and 6:00pm on Saturday 21st January 2012.
The conman knocked on the door claiming that there was a problem with the water because of a leak on Eaves Lane and that the water might be contaminated. He said he would return in twenty minutes.
When he returned the conman ask the victim, who is in his 90’s, to run some water off and then to fill some pans of water. The offender then went upstairs and into the pensioners bedroom.
The offender is described as in his 40’s, white, around 5ft 6, well built, tanned complexion, clean shaven, wearing a dark coloured anorak and jeans, working clothes although looked clean.
PC Claire Parrish said, “At this stage we do not believe anything has been stolen but I do not think that that is was for the lack of trying. The offender has gone upstairs and looked for items to steal, maybe cash or jewellery.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who as in the area at the time and who may have witnessed suspicious activity to come forward and contact the police. Also, if anyone has had similar incidents in the area then again, I would bee eager to speak with them.”
