Town centre improvement group in the pipeline

Jan - 31 2012

CHORLEY Council has called for a new board to be set up to make decisions on the future of the town centre.

The announcement was made at Thursday’s Town Centre Forum meeting, which saw members of the various groups representing the town centre come together in the Town Hall.

Councillor Alan Cullens, who has responsibility for improving the town centre at Chorley Council, said: “There are a number of fractious groups representing different bodies within the town centre, but none of these have representatives from across all interests and so are not in a position to make meaningful and representative decisions.

“We would like to get to a situation where there is one coordinated group that can discuss concerns and issues and agree priorities for actions for the whole of the town centre.

“This would enable us to be sure that we’re meeting the needs of everyone with a vested interest in Chorley town centre and build towards a vibrant, economically prosperous centre.”

The council will be engaging with existing town centre groups, as well as businesses, services and traders who are not part of these groups, to form the board over coming weeks. More details will be shared as things progress.
